# Job Summary
This position was previously announced January 19, 2018 through February 2, 2018 and March 14, 2018 through March 26, 2018. If you submitted an application during that period, you do not need to reapply.
This is a temporary vacancy (approx: May 2018 - August 31, 2018). This position will conduct invasive insect and disease survey of corn, soybean and small grains in the southeastern part of Minnesota in nine (9) counties (Goodhue, Dodge, Olmsted, Fillmore, Mower, Freeborn, Faribault, Blue Earth and Martin). This position will require the candidate to be based out of a home office in one of the designated counties.
Qualifications
## Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree or higher in biology, entomology, botany, plant pathology, or equivalent.
2. Valid Driver's License with an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.
3. A good understanding of pest biology, host identification, and valid survey procedures.
4. Intermediate level expertise in computer usage.
## Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with collecting data for scientific biological surveys.
2. Experience with laboratory procedures and protocols in a work setting.
3. Background or experience with using personnel protective equipment and following safety guidelines.
## Physical Requirements
This position is physically demanding and may include the following. The ability to perform all physical duties listed below is required:
a. Extensive driving--driving distances may average or exceed 150 miles per day,
b. Frequent stopping and exit/entry of vehicle along or near major roads,
c. Survey work requiring long periods of walking and climbing in fields, ditches and wooded areas,
d. Kneeling/squatting/bending for long periods of time,
e. Working with a variety tools including knives and saws,
f. Felling and disposing of trees requiring the physical strength to fell and dismember a tree with a handsaw, as well as the strength to lift and drag tree parts weighing up to 50 lb,
g. Working around and in dust and mud,
h. Working in inclement weather, in extreme temperatures and around insects.
